Bedford Community Choice Aggregation Program

Bedford Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) is Bedford’s program to provide new electricity products to Bedford residents and businesses.

Bedford CCA is operated by the Town of Bedford and offers four electricity supply options detailed below. Eversource continues to deliver electricity, repair outages and manage all electricity billing. The only change is the source and cost of electricity supply, chosen by the Town of Bedford.

Bedford CCA products

Bedford CCA has a standard product, called Bedford Local Green, which has more renewable energy content than required by the Commonwealth. Participants in the program receive Bedford Local Green unless they affirmatively choose one of the other electricity products.

Disclaimer: A goal of the CCA program is to produce savings for customers, but savings cannot be guaranteed compared to the utility’s basic service rate which change every six months for residential and small commercial customers, and every three months for large commercial customers. The aggregation program seeks to provide price stability and average savings over the full term of the program, but because future basic service rates are not known, there is no guarantee of savings.

Products described as Green contain Renewable Energy Certificates (MA Class I RECs) above that required by the Commonwealth and come only from solar, wind, anaerobic digestion and low-impact hydro located within New England. Local refers to New England.

All of the additional RECs included in the program are designated as Massachusetts Class I. RECs are the accepted legal instrument used to track renewable energy generation and to substantiate claims of renewable energy use. Learn more about the RECs that are included on the Renewable Energy page.

Program options will be available to all residents and businesses in Bedford from December 2019 to the end of December 2021.

Goals of Bedford CCA

Competitive, Stable Price

Using strategic purchasing, combined with the bulk purchasing power of thousands of households and businesses in the program, Bedford CCA provides competitive, stable rates. Please note, savings compared to Eversource Basic Service cannot be guaranteed because Basic Service prices change every six months for residential and commercial customers and every three months for industrial customers.

Support Renewable Energy Sources

Bedford CCA’s standard and optional products include more Renewable Energy Certificates (MA Class I), than required by the Commonwealth. This means you can support the growth of renewable energy generation in our region.

Increased Choice and
Easy Participation

The program offers 4 different options for electricity supply so that everyone in Bedford can find an option that fits their budget and climate goals.

Participants in Bedford CCA may leave the program at any time without penalty.

Solar Electricity Consumers will continue to receive their net metering credits while participating in the program.

Budget Plan or Eligible Low-Income delivery rate consumers will continue to receive those benefits from the utility.

How to Participate in Bedford CCA

Most residents and businesses in Bedford already participate in the Bedford CCA program. Check your electricity bill to see if you’re one of them: the Supplier should be listed as Dynegy – Bedford AGG. If Eversource is still listed as your supplier, you may complete the enrollment form to sign up for Bedford CCA. If a different supplier is listed, contact that supplier to check for penalties or termination fees that they may charge before you join the Bedford CCA program.

Participation in the Bedford CCA program is voluntary: you can leave the program at any time without fee or penalty.

The program will periodically send Customer Notification letters to new or newly eligible electricity customers, which includes the program details, information about product prices, and renewable energy certificates. Customers who receive this letter and do not choose to opt out will be automatically enrolled. To enroll sooner, use our online forms.
